Driver Training Courses

At Buckeye we know that learning is a lifelong pursuit and that boating is no exception.  For this reason, we are proud to offer boaters the option of pursuing advanced driver training with one of our expert captains.

Overview

Buckeye is pleased to offer hands-on driver training for captains of all types and abilities. We specialize in hands-on courses that teach captains the skills needed to feel at ease behind the wheel. All of our courses are taught by certified professionals and are focused on an enjoyable, safe learning experience.
Courses range from beginner to advanced, and are customized to suit the needs of every boater. We offer specific courses for women and youth as well as courses that focus on and teach specific functions such as locking through and docking to ensure the very best learning environment possible. We are sure that we have a course to fit your boating needs...join us!  

Course Specifics

Date:  training by appointment only
Time:  varies depending on the course (anywhere from 2-6 hours)
Location:  we can come to you (although some restrictions apply)

Instructors

All of our instructors are local, lifelong boaters with expertise in various aspects of boating life.  From leisure cruises along the Trent-Severn Waterway, locking through and navigating the lock system, to towing and competing in wakeboard competitions, they have the experience and knowledge to meet your needs.  Whatever your course of choice, you can be sure that you will be paired with a captain who will help you master new skills and gain knowledge that will make you feel more comfortable and confident behind the wheel.

Prior Knowledge & Credentials
Towing
     - Must be 16 years of age and possess a valid driver's license (G2 class minimum)
     - Must be able to operate an automatic transmission vehicle
Captaining
     - Must possess PCOC
     - Must wear a Canadian Coast Guard Approved personal floatation device
     - Must have all required safety equipment on board the boat as specified by the Government of Canada
     - Must have a basic understanding of safe boating operation and practical experience
